On June 29, 2018, The Aston Shuffle released their new single “Everything I Got”. The track has been gaining traction over the two months that it has been out and we have to admit that it sure is a banger, one that’s worthy of going viral.

The track has been gaining Spotify streams week-on-week, proving that people are loving this sound from The Aston Shuffle. You may recognise their name from one of their many remixes, their biggest of which was of Dizzee Rascal’s song “Dance Wiv Me” which featured Calvin Harris and Chrome. The duo, consisting of Mikah Freeman and Vance Musgrove, have been actively progressing their career, releasing new music often alongside a bunch of remixes. Just going through their releases will flare up some massive tunes that you will simply love.

We managed to exclusively interview the duo about their recent release “Everything I Got”, about a month ago. The interview covers their music, their touring schedule, and what we can expect from them in the future.

Hi Mikah & Vance, we hope your day is going well. What have you been up to recently?

We just finished up a writing camp in London. We had the pleasure of working with some really talented writers and got some great songs out of it and then capped it off by playing on The Magician’s Potion stage at Tomorrowland with Claptone, Pete Tong, Idris Alba, Boston Bun, and of course, The Magician.

Before we get into questions about your new song, may we ask how you chose the name, The Aston Shuffle?

It’s not the most amazing story, to be honest [laughs]. Many years ago when we were first starting out we decided to start our own label as a platform to release our music. After a lot of debate about the name for the label, we decided to mash the names of the two suburbs we were living in at the time. Ainslie and Weston = Aston and then we just added the shuffle instead of “records or recordings” and that’s it. We put out some remixes under “the Aston Shuffle” label and before we knew it other labels came knocking on the door to sign The Aston Shuffle as an artist so we went with it and here we are ten years later.

You recently released your brand new single “Everything I Got”, can you tell us more about the song?

We are huge fans of that classic piano house sound. It’s so timeless to us. We hadn’t written a song with pianos for some time so we wrote some feel-good chords, added some big house drums and got a great uplifting vocal written by Leo Kaylan and Ryan Ashley. I think we achieved what we set out to do with this song, we’re really happy with the outcome in the end.

What has the reaction to the track been like?

The reaction has been incredible so far. We couldn’t be happier. We had been road-testing for some time so by the time of the release we felt like we were on to a good thing.

It’s raked up over 300K streams, how does it feel knowing so many people have listened to it?

There’s no better feeling than putting your heart and soul into a piece of art and then having it received in a positive way. It’s what it’s all about really.

A lyric video to the song was dropped on the Spinnin’ Records YouTube Channel, can you tell us about the video?

The lyric video is an animation of the single art by Baptise (the designer behind Potion’s signature look). His work is incredibly unique and super cool! We love him so much. We got him to do our logo as well.

You’ve performed at a lot of festivals in the past, which has been your favourite and why?

We played so many festivals over the years and it’s honestly too hard to name just a few. We just did Tomorrowland last week so we won’t be forgetting that one anytime soon that’s for sure!

How do festivals differ from your own gigs?

The feeling of being on a festival stage in front of a massive crowd with huge stage production and sound is pretty incredible. On the flip side, some of the best gigs we’ve played have been intimate club gigs where we have the opportunity to play a longer set, get up close and personal and focus more on taking the crowd on a musical (and very sweaty) journey.

Do you plan to tour soon? And what can people expect from your sets?

We’re currently taking a break from touring right now as we have so much new music that needs to get finished. Expect to hear more new music real soon and tour dates to follow after that.

You’ve collaborated with plenty of artists in the past, who has been your favourite and why?

We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with so many artists over the years, it’s so hard to name a favourite [laughs] They’ve all been special for various reasons. We’ve actually got some new collaborations on the horizon as well. more details on that soon!

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be, and why?

Right now, we’re really inspired by artists like Camelphat, Michael Calfan, Peggy Gou, KDA, Offaiah, and Pirupa, so to collaborate with any of these artists would be really exciting.

What can we expect from The Aston Shuffle next? And what’re your plans for the rest of the year?

Releasing lots of new music and touring internationally more is the focus for us. Plus continuing to build our Only100s mixtapes. they’ve been a lot of fun to put together and our fans seem to really enjoy them.

And, finally, do you have a message for your fans?

We love each and every one of you and can’t wait for you to hear all this new music we’re working on! xx

Thank you, The Aston Shuffle, for taking the time out to answer our questions. We’re certainly looking forward to all the new music that will be released in the near future, as teased in our interview.
