Its official — Aaron Rodgers is headed to the Big Apple.
The blockbuster trade was announced earlier today (April 24) when the Green Bay Packers traded their long-time franchise QB to the New York Jets in exchange for the 13th overall pick in Thursday’s first round of the 2023 NFL Draft along with a second-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and the possibility of an additional fourth-round pick if Rodgers plays 65% of the plays for the upcoming season.
Rodgers joins a Jets team that lacked consistent play from the quarterback position a season ago as multiple individuals started games for New York, including Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco. Aside from that, the Jets are tremendously talented and improving on the defensive side of the ball, thanks in part due to head coach Robert Saleh’s great defensive coaching ability.
As for whom Rodgers will have with him on the Jets offense, the team has some solid wideouts, including Garrett Wilson, who is coming off of a star-studded rookie season, as well as the recently signed veteran duo of Mecole Hardman and Allen Lazard; speaking of Lazard, the former Packer will stay receiving passes from the same QB as he and Rodgers share tremendous chemistry on and off the field.
Rodgers will now don a new uniform after eighteen seasons with the green and yellow playing in front of the Packers faithful in Lambeau Field, which included a Super Bowl win, countless record-breaking performances, and multiple Pro Bowl appearances and All-Pro selections. Rodgers took to social media to honor the Packers organization.
This is a very polarizing trade in football circles as Rodgers is one of greatest players to ever play in the NFL, and with him joining a young and ascending team in the Jets, many are excited for what’s to come; with all that said, fans must remember what kind of division the Jets are in as the AFC East is full of four playoff caliber teams as the Patriots led by Bill Belichick will always be in contention for postseason play, the Bills have won the division for multiple years in a row, and the Dolphins almost upset with the Bills in the postseason with their QB3 at the helm so therefore many are expecting for Miami to be even better in head coach Mike McDaniel’s second season at the helm.
All in all, this trade makes the upcoming NFL season even more exciting as one of the best in the game will now play his games at MetLife Stadium.
