Sabrina Impacciatore who plays Valentina in the HBO Series sent a cake to Mike White the creator of the show, however, what she did not anticipate was the racist writing on the cake because of words lost in translation.
The White Lotus actress recently appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to talk about her experience on the show and her upbringing as an Italian actress.
While promoting the show, she mentioned that if it weren't for an innocent mistake, the issue could have landed her in a troublesome situation.
Impacciatore wanted to celebrate her birthday and to do so she invited the whole cast to a party, including the series' showrunner and creator Mike White.
While at the party she wanted to give a small token of appreciation to her boss and she decided that a cake would be suitable for the event, however, the cake that she asked to be baked came out racist.
'White at Heart' cake accident
White and Impacciatore share a love for cinema, and one of White's favorite movies was David Lynch's Wild at Heart starring Laura Dern and Nicolas Cage, so she decided to order a cake where she could combine the love for the movie, the name of the showrunner and both the US and the Italian flag.
The result was not what she intended as she made a cake that said "White at Heart."
"I asked the baker to prepare this beautiful cake," she explained. "I love this movie by David Lynch Wild at Heart and I wanted to do an homage to Mike White."
And then Impacciatore doubled down on the gesture "and then I put an American flag and an Italian flag on the cake."
"I understand what you were getting at," the host assured.
"The thing is that I wanted to take a picture with us all together, I was so proud of this cake, I was so happy. I couldn't wait to show it to everybody," she continued. "There was an ice moment, you know when everything freezes like everybody was frozen and I said, 'Hey guys let's have a picture all together!' And no one would get in the photo with this."
Kanye West would have been in trouble
Impacciatore wanted to take a picture with everyone and the cake.
Sabrina mentioned that the only person who had the courage was her agent's brother.
"He came next to me and he said, 'Sabrina, no one will ever make a picture with you and this cake because this is a racist cake,'" she concluded.
On the other hand, Kimmel mentioned that "If Kanye [West] had this cake at his birthday we'd have a problem."
